What is FireFly and what is it used for?
FireFly is a line of natural fire powders for fireshow and special effects. The products are used to create controlled fire effects in vulcans, wands, lyco torches and other compatible stage props.
Does FireFly replace traditional lycopodium?
Yes. FireFly is a modern alternative to lycopodium and works in a very similar way, while also offering extra visual variants such as a white flash, golden sparks, floating sparks and crackling.
What are the differences between Liko, Magic, Sparkle, Stardust, Arcane and Pyroshock?
Liko creates a classic fireball, Magic adds a very bright white flash, Sparkle creates golden sparks, Stardust produces white sparks, Arcane generates floating sparks, and Pyroshock adds extra white sparks with a crackling effect.
Are FireFly powders easy to use?
Yes, provided you already understand safe fire handling. In practice, the powder is poured into a compatible prop and ignited with flame, but caution is required during transfer because the dust disperses easily.
Is FireFly suitable for beginners?
The products are intended primarily for people experienced in fire dance techniques and special effects. Because of the risk of burns and ignition when dispersed in the air, they should be used responsibly and professionally.
Are all FireFly variants natural?
The core of the FireFly line is based on natural ingredients. Some variants include additives responsible for a specific visual effect, such as magnesium, iron or blends that create white sparks and crackling.
How much powder should I put into a Vulcane?
It depends on the Vulcane model and the effect you want to achieve. As a starting point, fill the reservoir to about 1/2–3/4 of its volume. Too little powder will produce a weaker effect, while too much may reduce the smoothness of powder feeding. It is best to start with a smaller amount and gradually adjust the fill level to your own technique.
How long does one FireFly package last?
It depends on the type of prop, the intensity of the effect and the amount of powder used for one fill. Beginners usually use more material, while experienced performers can achieve a spectacular effect with smaller quantities.
How many swings does one Vulcane fill provide?
The output of one Vulcane fill depends on the amount of powder used and the technique used to create the effect. With standard use, one fill allows for a dozen or so impressive swings, although the exact number may vary depending on the performer’s style.
How long does one Vulcane fill work?
One fill is intended for a short series of effects, not continuous use throughout an entire show. In typical use, it can last for several dozen seconds of work with the prop if the effects are performed with pauses. Actual consumption is mainly affected by the performer’s technique, the frequency of swings and the amount of powder used for the fill.
Will FireFly powder pour out all at once?
No — when used correctly in a compatible prop designed for this purpose, FireFly powder is dispensed in a controlled way and does not pour out all at once. The prop design and the way it is used are crucial. FireFly should be used only in equipment intended for fire powders, according to its purpose and safety rules. Do not modify the prop yourself or use random containers or elements that restrict powder flow. Incorrect construction may cause uncontrolled material dispensing and increase risk during the show. FireFly is a professional fire powder intended for people experienced with fire effects.
How should I swing to get the best effect?
The best effect comes from smooth, decisive and controlled movements. It is not about swinging as fast as possible — repeatability and control over the prop are more important. The movement should be adapted to the specific prop and the type of FireFly powder used. Before using fire, it is worth practicing the movements without powder to get a good feel for the prop.
Is there a special technique for using FireFly?
There is no single universal technique — it depends on the prop, its construction and the selected FireFly type. Experienced performers adapt how they move the prop to the desired effect. The most important factors are fluid movement, control and the right technique for the specific prop. FireFly should be used according to its intended purpose and safety rules.
Should I soak first and then load the powder, or the other way around?
Most often, we recommend first pouring FireFly Powder into the container and only then carefully adding paraffin. This prevents the powder from sticking to wet Kevlar, which makes it easier to ignite the effect later.
With this method, cover the container outlet with a finger (preferably wearing a protective glove) so that the paraffin does not get into the powder. For this reason, it is most convenient to do this with two people — one secures the outlet, and the other can pour the paraffin.
In the fireshow community, other methods of preparing equipment are also used. The most important thing is that the chosen method is safe and allows you to achieve the expected effect during the performance.
Is FireFly suitable for workshops?
FireFly may be used during fireshow workshops conducted exclusively by an experienced instructor and only if appropriate safety rules are followed. Classes should take place in SMALL GROUPS, where the instructor can continuously supervise all participants (maximum three participants per instructor).
The instructor should be responsible for preparing the props, dosing the powder and controlling the course of the exercises. Particular care must be taken when transferring the powder — its dust can be hazardous in contact with flame. During exercises, ONLY ONE person should perform with fire at the same time.
For safety reasons, FireFly should be used only by ADULTS. People starting their fireshow journey should first master the basics of working with fire and only later use fire powders.
